The Alta Mira Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, (NSDAR or DAR), was organized on February 24, 1917. The chapter's name was chosen because of the long view of the mountains the founding members had from the upstairs window at the founding meeting, hence, the name "Alta Mira." Most members are from the Tulare County area; however, some members are from other areas as well. Local residency is not a requirement for membership in any chapter.

Our biggest event of the year is a ceremony commemorating Constitution Week and "Bells Across America." It is now jointly sponsored by the First Congregational Church and Alta Mira Chapter, NSDAR.  Other groups contributing time and talent include Boy Scout Troop 132, Community Bell Choir, and the Community String Ensemble. There is a patriotic sing-along and presentation of a Community Service Award. The chapter also takes a very active part in the community Flag Day Ceremony and in "The Butterfield Stage Day" for 15,000 fourth graders.

We welcome any woman for membership who is 18 years or older and who is descended from a man or woman who aided in achieving American independence during the period between April 19, 1775, and November 26, 1783. Information on membership in the DAR can be found here.
